C. Scott Franklin, CPCU, ARM

President and Chief Executive Officer

Scott Franklin joined Lanier Upshaw in January, 2000.  His duties include overall corporate operations and strategy.

Mr. Franklin is a Thomaston, GA native and completed high school in Lakeland, FL.  He is a 1986 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy and served 14 years on active duty as a carrier jet pilot.  He also has a Masters in Business Administration from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and completed the Executive Leadership Development Program at The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.

Mr. Franklin is very active in community, industry and civic affairs.  He is chairman of the Lakeland Economic Development Council and secretary/treasurer of the Lakeland Yacht and Country Club.  He also serves on the executive committees of the Lakeland Area Chamber of Commerce and the Florida chapter of the Young Presidents Organization (YPO), the board of directors of the Tampa Bay Partnership, and is a member and past-president of the Lakeland Rotary Club.  He also serves on the Board of Overseers for Florida Southern College’s Division of Business and Economics.  Scott is a Naval Academy Information Officer and Commander in the United States Naval Reserves.  He is an elder in the First Presbyterian Church of Lakeland, FL and former member of its Session.  His past duties also include the executive committee and board of directors of the Central Florida Speech & Hearing Center.

His insurance industry involvement includes past membership on the board of directors of the Florida Association of Insurance Agents (FAIA) and he is currently vice president of Westfield Insurance Company’s Agents Association.  Mr. Franklin previously served on the Florida advisory councils of Safeco and Hanover insurance companies.  He holds the Chartered Property & Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) and Associate in Risk Management (ARM) designations.
